The Challenge
How can emergency responders act faster and safer during chemical incidents?
Handling incidents involving hazardous substances demands instant access to accurate information. DEMA needed a solution that would allow first responders (e.g. firefighters, health professionals, and police) to quickly identify chemical compounds and follow the correct safety procedures.
Previously, this information was only available through printed handbooks and static resources, making it difficult to access critical details in fast-changing environments. DEMA’s goal was to digitize these materials and create a user-friendly, offline-accessible platform that would enhance preparedness, coordination, and response times in emergency situations.
The Solution
Farlige Stoffer:
A digital companion for hazardous materials response
Empact partnered with DEMA to deliver Farlige Stoffer, a mobile app designed to detect, identify, and manage hazardous substances in real time.
Through the app, emergency personnel can quickly access physical and chemical data on substances, along with clear instructions and safety measures for each compound. The solution also provides geolocation maps showing emission centers and wind direction data from DMI, helping responders make informed decisions on site. Users can easily revisit their last five lookups for quick reference, ensuring continuity during ongoing operations.
All information is based on DEMA’s official handbooks, consolidated into a modern, searchable digital tool that also works offline. With our collaboration, we can ensure reliability and accessibility even in low-connectivity environments.
The Outcome
Increased safety and accessibility through digital innovation
The implementation of Farlige Stoffer has revolutionized how DEMA and emergency responders handle chemical incidents. By providing instant, offline access to safety-critical data, the app has enhanced decision-making, reduced response times, and improved coordination across emergency teams.
Today, Farlige Stoffer is used nationwide by thousands of professionals, setting a new standard for digital safety in crisis management. , Farlige Stoffer has become an essential operational tool with: 50,000+ users, 380,000+ sessions, and a 5-star rating.
