The Challenge

How can we modernize maintenance training for defense teams?

Our longstanding partner Lockheed Martin wanted to ensure the quality, consistency and engagement of maintenance training across teams and locations. In contrast to traditional classroom settings and analogue learning methos, their leadership identified the need for a more modern, flexible and effective approach to both initial and task-based learning.

Lockheed Martin wished for a modern training approach which could deliver standardized content across the globe, while supporting both new and experienced technicians, reducing administrative burden and enable teams to practice safely. The goal was to create a flexible, repeatable and immersive training ecosystem which matches the pace of evolving defense operations.

The Solution

Transforming training with Empact AcademyComputer Empact Academy 2

Together with Lockheed Martin, we developed a digital training the comprehensive learning module Empact Academy which ensures that technicians have the required training to properly maintain an asset, modernizing maintenance training. It can be used together with or separately from Empact Asset Maintenance.

Empact Academy introduces a more adaptive and modern way of learning, centralizing all training materials (e.g. courses, lessons, assessments) into a single, easy-to-use, digital environment. This allows technicians across teams and locations to follow the same training and certification standards, regardless of their background or experience level. Moreover, the role-based training paths adapt learning content to specific aircraft systems, technician experience levels and required certifications. With the integrated assessment tools, trainers can monitor progress, validate competencies and ensure compliance with maintenance and defense requirements.

Furthermore, Empact integrated an immersive layer with a VR/AR-based training solution with Microsoft's HoloLens. This allows technicians to interact with aircraft components in a simulated environment, practice tasks repeatedly, and perform complex procedures safely and efficiently without needing access to physical equipment.

Empact collaborated closely with Lockheed Martin’s training department to validate learning objectives and align digital modules with operational standards, supporting a smooth adoption across training teams globally.

The Outcome

Empowering technicians through immersive learning

Empact Academy has redefined how maintenance teams learn, practice, and master complex procedures. By combining immersive training experiences with real operational data, organizations can deliver scalable, hands-on training that drives engagement, consistency, and operational excellence. Technicians can gain hands-on experience earlier in their learning journey, allowing them to build confidence and competence before performing tasks on actual aircraft. Training departments benefit from streamlined content management, easier certification tracking and faster onboarding cycles.

The result : skilled, confident teams equipped to perform maintenance tasks with greater accuracy and speed - ultimately improving fleet readiness and operational performance.
